PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey announced today that Lisa Graham Keegan, one of Arizona’s most respected education leaders, will lead AZ OnTrack Summer Camp, a program designed to overcome the pandemic learning loss that occurs.
The governor also announced applications from schools and community partners to open camps on Monday.
“AZ OnTrack Summer Camp will help our children reach their full potential, and having educational pioneers like Lisa Graham Keegan will help make that happen,” Governor Ducey said.”Lisa and I want all of our kids to know that this is not just summer school. This is camp with a purpose. It will have activities, games, peer learning and more.”
AZ OnTrack delivers on his January state promise to keep students up to speed, remind them of the joy and confidence of learning, and reinvigorate teachers and students.
Lisa Graham Keegan was Director of Public Instruction from 1995 to 2001 and a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995.In both positions, she is a passionate advocate for educational excellence in Arizona and a champion of school choice.
As president of AZ OnTrack, she will be the lead for an eight-week summer camp program that will provide students with a positive, innovative atmosphere so they can catch up.
“This is not the time to keep our kids out of school for weeks or months again,” Graham Keegan said.”They need each other, and they deserve experiences that reconnect them with the joys of learning. We all know how much we value a good school, a great youth camp and the beauty of our children together. This summer offers once again For that, I’m very grateful to the Governor for making sure the children most in need have these opportunities.”

Schools and community organizations will be hosting campgrounds across the state, offering all families the opportunity to get their children in time for the fall.These partners will work together to overcome the academic and social toll the children have faced over the past two years.
Over the next few weeks, families will be able to enroll their children through the camp provider of their choice for the summer camp site that best suits their child’s needs.
Arizona will provide top-notch professional development opportunities for participating teachers and educators, rewarding their dedication to the state’s children.This is in addition to funding camps to ensure competitive compensation for teachers.
“This summer camp wouldn’t be possible without our hard-working faculty and staff, so we want to make sure they benefit too,” Governor Ducey said.”We will be asking the state board to provide credit for renewing certificates for teachers attending camps.”
Most camps will begin in June, but each host has the flexibility to schedule, schedule, transport and child care to best serve working families.
The Governor will invest $100 million to start summer camps and provide additional funding to meet demand.
Governors Ducey and Graham Keegan participated in today’s announcement with student, educational and community youth leaders in support of the initiative, including Maricopa County Schools Superintendent Steve Watson, Andy Price of the Grand Canyon Council Scouts, Christina Spicer and girls Mary Mitchell of Boy Scouts – Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, Graciela Garcia Candia of Arizona Graduate Employment Center (JAG), Marcia Mintz and Josh Stine of Boys and Girls Club of the Valley, Julia Meyerson and Dr. Roxanne Zamora of Vista Prep School.
